Ok, tried on my 12.04 install and works.
Don't know why it doesn't work in 12.10.
Looks good.
I installed timidity but the play button is still greyed out.

Try giving execute permissions to the user. BTW I tried on Ubuntu 12.04 and it works without problems.

You must first click on "view" then you will be able to play the scale.
