You can find over 160 deKorator themes here: http://www.kde-look.org/index.php?xcontentmode=21. Additionally, many KDE 3.2+ theme packages include deKorator themes.
The Copyright holder is the original author (Moty Rahamim), I ported it to KDE4, as is allowed per GPL 2+ license. For his KDE3 version, see http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php/deKorator?content=31447.
Please use the "Report Bug" help menu item to report bugs and wishes for future versions.
Notes:
* To install a theme, the file must be named "NAME-theme.tar.gz" and contain "deco", "buttons", and "masks" directories inside the "NAME-theme" directory. deKorator 0.5 no longer offers a "Paths" tab to set theme paths individually. If a theme does not install, please report this to the author of the theme..
* I do no longer provide binary packages, most distributions already ship deKorator. Ask them to update.
* To install from source, you need cmake, kdebase-workspace-dev, and libqimageblitz-dev (or similary named). Additionally, you must have the KDE 4 binaries in your path. Use
export PATH=$PATH:/usr/lib/kde4/bin/
cd dekorator-0.5.1
cmake -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=`kde4-config --prefix`
make
sudo make install
* deKorator is developed in KDE's git repository, see https://projects.kde.org/projects/playground/artwork/dekorator

Hi. This is my fav at the time to theme the workspace, but, right now I upgraded to plasma/kde5 and this is not available anymore. Do you have planed to port dekorator to plasma5? this will be really cool. Thanks and reggards.
Hi, would be really cool, if you update it to works in Plasma/KDE5 also :)))) best regards Blacky blackysgate.de OpenMandriva Community Member
Since I updated my debian machine it is impossible to have access to the DeKorator window decorations. We are talking of "Window Decorations" under "Application Style". What do you suggest? Thanks in advance. Jacques

DeKorator has not been ported to Plasma 5, it only works with KDE 4.
If i try to do "sudo apt-get install kwin-style-dekorator", apt tells that kwin is about to be uninstalled just to satisfy dekorator dependencies. If i try via synaptic, the same happens, dekorator is marked to install but kwin to be uninstalled. I found the .deb package, so i give it a chance. It installed very well, no dependencies problem. But now when i try to use the apt-get command this is what i get: imyc@HP-455-Notebook-PC:~$ sudo apt-get install openjdk-7-jdk Leyendo lista de paquetes... Intente «apt-get -f install» sin paquetes (o especifique una solución). what can i do?? its ok to uninstall kwin to install dekorator?? if yes, what can i use as window manager for use whit dekorator?? thanks
Do NOT uninstall kwin, you might be left with an unusable system. deKorator requires a working kwin. The reason for your error message is that you are using an old package. Use a package of deKorator that is explicitely compiled for your distribution version, or compile it yourself.
funny I get the same thing trying to install it on ubuntu 14.04 64 bit. apt-get install kwin-style-dekorator The following packages will be REMOVED: kde-window-manager kde-window-manager-common kde-workspace kde-workspace-bin kscreensaver kscreensaver-xsavers kubuntu-desktop plasma-desktop plasma-netbook

I am using the MWM/CDE/Motif theme. It's very cool to have again access to the Motif theme. The problem I have is that the buttons are grabbing the display being behind when the window is created. Then it keeps the pattern when I move the window. I'm running KDE for Debian. Does it ring a bell? And do you know of a solution? Thanks in advance Jacques
Try enabling KWin compositing.
Excellent! thanks a lot, I just had seen this answer already but I did not know where this option was. Thanks again. Jacques
Hi! I just downloaded Dekorator on Kubuntu 13.04 (with KDE 4.10.3) via apt-get, but i cannot make the buttons look right. Here are 3 examples (with the themes AnewStart, EyeOS and Oxygen) of how it looks: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/4287016/DeKorator/Dekorator1.png https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/4287016/DeKorator/Dekorator2.png https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/4287016/DeKorator/Dekorator3.png The strange thing about this is, that the weird buttons appears when i move a window or maximize it. So when the window is not maximized, it all looks normal - most of the time. Can you help me with this? Thanks!

I can't get this to build on Fedora 17 (64) with KDE 4.9.1, and the link to git is dead. Is there a 0.5.1 Fedora package available anywhere? (Fedora has never held KDE4 packages for Dekorator, only the old KDE3 packages which were obsoleted by Fedora in 2008). Is Dekorator still an "active" project?
The git repository works fine, just tried a clean checkout. It also still builds, with today's KDE master (4.10) and newest gcc (4.7.2). Please pastebin error messages.
Hi Christoph, Thanks for replying and checking this out. I'll go and have another try! :)

Unfortunately, deKorator's title bar buttons are all wonky in KDE 4.8 with desktop effects turned off. Here is the bug report: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=293718 Any hope for an update?
Keep compositing enabled, and only disable all effects that you do not want.
Is there any hope that deKorator will be updated with a fix considering the Kwin team might eventually be removing OpenGL 1.x support from the window manager? In a future KDE version, my laptop might no longer support desktop effects, and I hope I'll still be able to use deKorator at that point.
You can use XRender compositing for old hardware, I am currently also using it on my rusty i945 chip. As for updates in deKorator and Smaragd, I am waiting until the API changes coming for future KDE versions have settled, so that I can implement shadows etc. correctly. It was also hinted that deKorator is going to be rewritten in QML by the KWin team, so that any efforts on the C++ code would be wasted. (And yeah, I know that instead of waiting, I should actually help contributing those changes, but my priorities are elsewhere, sorry.)
Understood. Thanks for all you do to make KDE what it is, which is nothing short of AWESOME!
I fixed it in Mandriva. Patch: http://svn.mandriva.com/cgi-bin/viewvc.cgi/packages/cooker/kde4-windeco-dekorator/current/SOURCES/dekorator-0.5.1-kde4.8.patch?view=markup&pathrev=786389
Thanks :) There is one problem with the patch: The background is not simply "midTitle", but could also be "leftButtons" or "rightButtons", depending on which side the button is at.
