The new version 4.6 is improves some widget details in gtk-3.0 and the gnome-shell. GTK4 theming was completely rewritten and is tested against GTK4.6. That took about 3 month. I'm not ready for any GTK5 ;-)
GTK2 engines requirement: (used for QT or old GTK2 applications such as Gimp)
(1). GTK2 engine Murrine
(2). GTK2 pixbuf engine or the gtk(2)-engines package.
Installing:
Untar the package. It contains 3 folder themes for 3 resolutions. Copy them into into ~/.themes or /usr/share/themes to make them globally available (recommended)
**Gnome:**
Gnome uses libadwaita which undermines theming efforts. To circumvent this, add the selected theme into your ~/.profile:
export GTK_THEME=Gradient-blue-DPI24-46
To get the same look and feel for QT applications (VLC,or KDE apps) add:
export QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=gtk2
Update on November 2024:
GTK4 evolves and seems to support Vulcan only. To run GTK4 Apps on X11 the following line has to be inserted into /etc/profile:
export GSK_RENDERER=cairo

10 I don't know how I missed this. Perfect in its style and tasteful simplicity.
10 Hey, I hope you don't mind, I modified your Cinnamon panel and posted it as a separate item here: https://www.pling.com/p/2038574/ I figured your original Cinnamon theme is designed for the Mac-like or Unity-like layout, and it visually works with that. But for something more Windows-like, to me it felt like it was a bit clashing with the rest of the theme visually (being transparent and flat). So I modified it for myself, and then decided to post here in case some people might want it. It might end up getting deleted cause it's pretty sloppily made and I'm not sure if I followed all the rules correctly. I linked your GitHub page and credited you in the description.
@moloch1994: I assume you are referring to the "dark" mode of the contexts menus. It is a theme break (which I never noticed). I'll build a "gray" version of that. Thanks for pointing it out
Umm... Don't think there's a dark mode. We might be talking about different things? I download Gradient-blue-46.tar.gz and it only had 3 versions, which weren't divided by Dark/Light. Either I should try a different archive (I chose that one because it was the latest) or you misunderstood me. I'm talking about the Cinnamon panel and all the menus that you summon by right-clicking (plus the start menu). They look like the default un-themed Cinnamon menus. Then again, maybe the problem is that you've built this for the latest version of Cinnamon. I'm still on Mint 20.2. So there is a possibility that the panel just isn't working properly on my OS.
I've made a screenshot on Mint 20: https://imgur.com/ckVG2pK.png. The main change of that theme is the transparent panel (lightly green in the picture). Until now I did not but much effort in it - so yes it is mainly derived from a dark cinnamon theme. I intend to change that.
Yes, this is how it looks for me too. Usually such context menus indicate that the theme is unfinished or broken (when some of the code is outdated, Cinnamon reverts to default). If you can make it stylistically consistent with the GTK, that would honestly make this probably the best available theme for Cinnamon. A big problem for Cinnamon is that every great looking theme lacks one of the elements, or one of the elements looks very different from the rest. I think the GTK and the Metacity elements in your theme look lovely, even better than the theme I'm currently using. If you make the Cinnamon panel similar to them, I'll probably permanently switch to your theme.
You are right- its a fallback. I've setup a cinnamon instance workspace and started to work. Expect 1-2 month.
Awesome, thanks for your dedication!
Enjoy. If you encounter glitches describe them at "https://github.com/kanehekili/Gradient-blue/issues"
thank you! will do, if i encounter any!
10 10 the best
9 excellent+ Excellent gradient GTK theme and the only reason I didn't give a 10 is because when I maximise Gimp, inkscape or the browser the buttons vanish strange but still a great theme . thank you very much KANEHEKILI
Thanks archman73. Just tested it with metacity on compiz. Which DE and Compositor did you use? There used to be a bug in metacity that rendered the top bar transparent on maximize. But that had been fixed in since Version 3.22...
Hi, Kanehekili this happened only the first time I install theme after reboot it worked flawless no issues again! I'm using the gradient-blue 324-2. thank you for the reply, it's a shame that I can't give you a 10 now Sorry, next update I definitely give you a 10 for your hard work!!!
10 10 the best - thanks. Finally a theme that is NOT flat...
LibreOffice Writer has a problem starting. You can see here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1R2OVcsYtGsSOy0wyO2bq0aUvd9qZoTag/view?usp=sharing and: you need to fix "top-left-active.xpm" from "xfwm4" It has a black corner.
Thanks for your report. But I can't see anything wrong in the picture. Here you can see my LibreOffice with the latest gradient-blue: https://imgur.com/3vrWLhX.png
Good! Great! It's not a flat theme!
10 10 the best works well with my manjaro cinnamon
