I upgraded my Ubuntu system from Hoary to Breezy. Some window decorations / styles did no longer appear in my K control Center (I every time DID the ./configure with the right prefix!)... so I re-installed them, oh well, i tried. before, everything (or quite everithing) worked well. now as you can see some of the engines (DecGen, AKDC) have become buggy on my pc: they display errors that never appeared before. WHY?! what can I do to fix this?
oh, as you see in the second screenshot, the Kcontrol Center too displays those bugs as they were made in this way: the errors in the decoration are equal to those in the preview...
anyway, as you see in the last screen, some other AKDC windecos seem to work fine.
PLEASE, comment and help me fix this! I believe I'm not the only poor girl with this problem....
Lo so, non ti sto aiutando, ma potresti dirmi che icone usi? e magari anche lo sfondo, dove lo hai preso? E' decisamente interessante.... English (well, almost) version: I know, i'm not goint to help you, but can you tell me what icons are you using? And maybe also the wallpaper, where do you get it? It's pretty good...
I'm running Kubuntu Breezy and have no such problems with compiling windecs. I do have 2 windecs that were made with decgen and they work perfectly.
My only problem with windecs is when I try to modify the code myself to add a feature (making default round corners square in Knifty) and I screw it up. But that's just me being a numerical methods programmer and being very proficient in FORTRAN.
Did you install Ubunutu Breezy and then apt-get the kde packages? That could be one of the problems, but I don't know.
I've never had a more enjoyable Linux experience than with using Gentoo. It's definitely not for everyone though.
One thing I think the Gentoo community could provide new Gentoo users is live assistance at install time. I shared a few screen (see the info page: info:/screen) sessions during a Gentoo Linux installation much to their benefit.
Hi maitre,
Now what would u say if i told u that i can upgrade all of my opensuse 10.0 system in about 15-30 minutes, i USED to use gentoo for tha past year an ahalf but i got to the conclusion that it just aint worth it, now dont get me wrong gentoo is by FAR the most stable and fast linux os i ever used but man to upgrade kde takes me about 1.5 - 2 days of compilation (p4-2.6 768-ram) and thats with the split ebuilds(Buaaaaa) so as for me i decided that for me the gentoo afair is over no more EMERGE no more CFG-UPDATE for me...
not being an ubuntu person (mmm... gentoo, sorry), i'd suggest configuring a windec tree, decgen, akdc, whatever has caused problem, run make install, run make uninstall and ensure the windec is removed.
make distclean, configure, make, make install, then run ldconfig to ensure the newly installed libraries are linking to the correct libraries.
be interested to know if someone has done a fresh installation of this 'breezy' you speak of and if the problem is upgrade-related, perhaps going from qt version a to version b, is the problem.
either way, make heavy use of ldconfig and make uninstall - hopefully i confused you breezy people worse than motyr did... ;)
try the ubuntu forums too, they'd know what changed between, um, hoary and breezy? ek, that's worse than a disney movie naming scheme...
no maitre, it is not the font!
I know, because I tested it out.
ok, i'll try that make-unistall and so on, but I need to find some how-tos becauseI never did those commands before (my linux experience started not before this summer) ;)
ah, I don't think the problem came with the distribution upgrade: I used the same version of KDE as now. I think so also for the Qt libraries... tomorrow i'll check. thanks to all for the answers!
ths same thing also happens to me, and the problem is that u possibly got some stray desktop files and shared objects, kde stores his deco desktop files in $KDEDIR/share/apps/kwin and the shared objects in $KDEDIR/lib/kde3, so check that u have the coresponding desktop files and shared objects of the same windec and remove all those that dont have the coresponding files...
hope u got what i meant:), i even confused me:\
sorry.
I meant to post here because this problem regards stuff that can all be found here, and, as you see, this issues affect a good 10% minimum of the kde-look addicts.
I think it's definitely not the video card (mine is a nVidia fx5200 128Mb DDR tvout)...
the wallpaper, well I modified one I had found somewhere, because it had some ugly scripts..
wait, i'm uploading at imageshack...

that's it.
coming back to the plot, ...is this fixable?
i'm going mad...
i've updated my hoary to breezy and had no problems with the windecs... and i don't even have a good video card (integrated intel chip) I know, it doesn't help but maybe it dismisses the idea it's the video card that goes wrong... or, maybe it's the driver that's been updated and that doesn't fit anymore... which graphic card do you have ? and which driver do you use ?? maybe you should try ask yout question on a kubuntu forum...
(by the way, i love your wallpaper could you tell me where you found it)
I've had graphic glitches (appears to be corrupted video memory) ever since I moved from Gentoo to Hoary (and now also in Breezy) on any windec that I install myself, regardless of correct prefix or not, however, this is only at work, where I am working on an integrated Intel i810 video adapter. At home, on my nVidia 5200FX card (and using nvidia drivers) I have no issue.
I posted about this on the (k)ubuntu forums several months ago and never got any replies. I just gave up and now use the included 'Glow' windec. Not as pretty, but I gotta get my work done.

had to reinstall Kubuntu breezy directly from cd, after formatting. now everything *seem* to work properly.

Bah! I take that back. I agree with bonafide's answer. Wow. I can't believe I wasted those brain cells... :(

the answer is easy as hell: the font for the window decoration is simply to big.
no. it isn't that way. tried it out, all te same, even after rebooting.

This is not meant to be a support forum, I suggest you use http://kde-forum.org instead.

This does not regard me, so ask in an ubuntu-form or similar.
