Description:

Big Sur Menu for Gnome Desktop

This is a fork of "Poppy Menu" that I have modified adding some functions and decorations to make the menu more similar to the macOS menu in its Big Sur version and thus bring it to Gnome as an extension in the Shell.

Installation

There are two ways to install the extension on your distro with Gnome Desktop; the first is manually, the second, and easier, is the installation from the official page of Gnome extensions**

Manual Installation

To do a manual installation, all you have to do is download the extension from Big Sur Menu for Gnome Desktop and unzip the file to obtain a folder that you must move to the path:

/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/

To see the "/.local/" folder you need to access the hidden files and for that you must first press the "ctrl + h" keys or go to the Nautilus menu and check the "Show Hidden Files box.

Installation from Gnome Extensions

**SOON! When I have a little more time I will upload the extension to "Gnome Extesions" since I do not have an account yet on the page and I need to inform myself and read the information about the rules of the page to upload an extension. I will try to do it as soon as possible, so, a little bit of patience, thanks }; -]

NOTE
After moving the folder to the extensions path, restart the Gnome Shell, press "Alt + f2", then type "r" and "Enter", this will restart the shell and the extension will appear in "Tweak Tools".
If you are using Wayland, you will need to restart your session.
All this in case the extension does not appear in the list of extensions in "Tweak Tools" or in "Extensions"

I hope you enjoy this extension on your top panel and all its functions are useful in your everyday work, and Please report any problem to improve the extension };-]

I'm sorry to disappoint you, friends, I have also tried the extensions that are available for Global Menu, but none of them work correctly, I have been working on solving the problems that these extensions have but with the new versions of Gnome it is no longer possible to extract and separate the menu of the applications since it has a new design. When I have a little time, I will upload a video on how I have configured each aspect and what are the extensions that I have used, because I am still working on some extensions, at the moment I only had time to upload this menu, but soon I will upload the extension of "System Tray" and a fork of "Dash to Dock" with floating dock and rounded edges, just have a little patience, I advance a little every time I have a little free time. So, a little patience, friends, you will soon have the extensions and other necessary things. Thank you for your votes, they motivate and help a lot, thank you so much };-]

XFCE4 Panel works while in Gnome. It also has a appmenu plugin which I am using right now to have a global menubar in Gnome. You can see a screenshot of what I got here https://www.deviantart.com/commodoreameris/art/Dis2-862605281?

Very good, @commodoreameris, I have also done that a while ago, but the underlying problem remains the same, the global menu does not work with Gnome applications, that is, in Gnome it is no longer possible to use a global menu due to its new structure Then, in order to see the global menu in all the applications, it is necessary to install applications that do not belong to Gnome, for example, in your capture you use the XFCE terminal, and it is necessary to install applications external to Gnome, and you fill in the application system to see that the global menu works, which is not good for the system, since you are installing dependencies from other desktop environments, then there are performance problems and there is a chaos of new configurations. Personally, I no longer try to have a global menu in Gnome and I try to use it with its default configuration, that is, I only make the necessary changes, since Gnome developers do not think about implementing the global menu again, so I give up xD better I stop trying to find a global menu for Gnome and I look for other better alternatives, like KDE or XFCE itself.

I suppose if you want pure GNOME then yeah I could see why you don't want to do it. That's fine. But for those who want a work-around even tho it may be a bit dirty, you could use my suggestion above.

10 How did you get this global menu working? All extensions i tried in gnome 3.36 failed to work! Could you please share with us ? Thanx in advance. 10 for your extension.

What do you use for the global menu and the system tray? This configuration might get me back into Gnome...
