Thanks A LOT for this fix, I just created an empty file called metadata.json as you explained replacing the metadata.desktop and opened it with Kate to copy the strings you provided, then save and open it again, worked like a charm!
For those wondering:
1) You should download de file first, then extract it and move the resulting folder (containing inside a "contents" folder and a "metadata.desktop" file) into this route:
/home/YourUser/.local/share/plasma/look-and-feel/
2) Create a new empty file without extension (NOT TXT) called metadata.json, so you end up with now the previous "contents" folder as well as 2 files on the same level whichare metadata.desktop and the new metadata.json
3) Open with any text editor the metadata.json file created and copy/paste all that cubancigar11 put on its previous post, starting with the first { and ending with the last } , then save.
4) Open your Settings and go into Splash Screens, now the theme should be not only visible on the list but also working for preview and for using it on reboot.

I recovered my account here only to say how good and perfect this one is. But it doesn't seem to be available and working in newest versions of Plasma
