Description: An updated version of the "plasma-applet-weather-widget" by Kotelnik (a.k.a. clearmartin).
YR.NO have changed their API and the original Weather Widget no longer works correctly with their data, and the project seems to be abandoned. This is a modified version of his widget that works with the new API.
The new Met.no API uses Latitude and Longitude to download the weather data - this version comes with a built-in searchable location database to find that for you.Last changelog:
Version widget: 2.3.5
KDE Neon:
Plasma 6.2.5
KDE 6.9.0
QT 6.8.1
Unsupported interface element
This interface element was created for an unknown, older version of Plasma and is not compatible with Plasma 6. We recommend contacting its author to request an update for the new Plasma version.
8Version 3.0.4 on Fedora 41 (development version) makes plasmashell spit our about 31 error messages in journald log:
file:///home/jayes/.local/share/plasma/plasmoids/org.kde.weatherWidget-3/contents/ui/providers/OpenWeatherMap.qml:612:9: QML XmlListModelRole: Query error: "Attribute value not found"
Plus this one once:
file:///home/jayes/.local/share/plasma/plasmoids/org.kde.weatherWidget-3/contents/ui/config/ConfigGeneral.qml:11:1: QML ConfigGeneral: Created graphical object was not placed in the graphics scene.
On this https://github.com/blackadderkate/weather-widget-2/releases place you find the "Weather Widget 3". If you scroll a little you see "Assets"... First item there is the weather-widget-3.0.4.plasmoid.
I downloaded it and installed it using the plasma addon-manager.
It works flawless. It is fantastic!
I hope they release it on the kde-store soon! I really recommend it!
The "very alpha" version for QT6 actually works fine for me. There may be some cosmetic issues in the config dialog, but other that that I am very happy to have my weather applet back on Fedora 40. THANKS!
The version on there now is very different to what it was like when I posted that comment 3 weeks ago, to be fair (about 30 commits)! It's pretty close to release quality now...
There's an early development Plasma 6 version of the widget on my Github page. Please read the Release Notes before installing, and report any bugs/issues/observations on the Discussion topic - please don't file issues on code that I'm still working on!
Yes, I've been working on it in my spare time for a few weeks now.
There are some massive changes in Qt6 and as a result I've had to rewrite large chunks of code - but I'm close to releasing an alpha version on Github for users to test.
Oh yes, I know. There is a huge amount of work required for migrating to Qt6. So thanks a lot for keeping the widget up-to-date.
By the way, currently, I am using OWM as my data source as the metno API seems not to work but I am sure you are aware of this issue.
Looks like the free Foreca option is a 30-day trial.
So it's not going to happen unless someone is willing to stump up the €990 a year cost...
I'll check whether "Feels Like" data is available from MetNo and OWM - if so that would be a pretty simple addition...
Apparently MetNo sources haven't been loading for the last couple of days.
The API I was using has been deprecated - luckily I have a fix.
I'll be uploading it here in a day or two, but if you know what you're doing you can find the fixed version here:
https://github.com/blackadderkate/weather-widget-2/releases/download/v2.3.5beta2/weather-widget-2.3.5.plasmoid
9Hello. I'm using v2.3.3 for now, but notice that the forecast chart for Montreal is completely empty. Yet, the basic summary displays just fine. Is there a Debian package / QML Widget-type I needed to install? My graphics chipset is an AMD (formerly ATI). All my other desktop compositing works fine.
I experience this bug with this widget: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=453492
Recommendation by Nate Graham in the bug report is to use PlasmaComponents3
10After an uninstalling the widget and deleting .local/share/plasma/plasmoids/org.kde.weatherWidget-2/ and restart, the size is fine again.
appreciate your work!

Version 3.0.4 from Github (https://github.com/blackadderkate/weather-widget-2/releases) is working. Please update it on store.kde.org :)
Благодарю за информацию, очень нравится этот виджет, а теперь и на шестой плазме можно использовать!

What is the actual status of the Plasma 6 version of the widget? Has it been abandoned?

Very nice widget! Are there plans to release a Plasma 6 version?

Oops, my bad. I've just uploaded the version that fixes the MetNo issue.
Please add support for Foreca.com, and feels like in popup option on extension.

10 Great work! Would be glad if you could implement the ability to add extended view (revealed on click) as a widget on desktop.

I'm sorry. In reply to myself: The forecast graph is suddenly displaying just fine, as if by magic. Thank you for the wonderful widget.

10 Nya!

9 The widget is not respecting the size. After restart it is smaller. OS: OpenSuse Tumbleweed.
10 10 Really useful widget. Great to see it's being maintained once again.
