5 it would be good if not for that ugly box on the left and right side... i checked the source and the webm included is natively like that 1300x1080 resolution, which is very odd, on 1920x1080 screen it looks ugly https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSHdhP-N2FU

Strange. It's supposed to display a background color the same (or very close to the same) as the edge of the video. Which distribution are you running? X11 or Wayland? Could you take a screenshot, sample the side areas that appears black in the video and tell me the color value?

Thanks for your reply. I'm using openSUSE Tumbleweed, and I tested it on both X11 and Wayland. I'm using proprietary nvidia drivers. On my intel gpu drived machine it looks normal though, so I think its something with the gpu drivers which would be very odd. (The out of the box opensuse bulb splash works as intended) - Took a screenshot and the color code of the side areas are #0d0f11, and I already checked the qml file, they are literally identical with the code, and checked the edge of the video, which is literally the same color code, so it should blend in, however it's not, which further increases the odd-ness o.O Could it really be the proprietary nvidia drivers? I have two monitors (yes I tested them separately too - same results), and the colorization couldn't be faulty because this splash appears equally the same (left-right boxes), on different aspect ratio monitors.

(You probably meant to comment on the Plasma 6 version here: https://www.pling.com/p/2138551/ ) I just updated to the latest snapshot of Tumbleweed, running AMD graphics, and it still works fine. So it might be an issue with the nvidia driver like you say (or the other way around :) ) or a QT bug or Plasma bug or something wrong with the video file. Could be a difference in how the video color profile gets applied, if at all. I had to use another color value when updating the splashscreen to Plasma 6. You can try first changing the color code in the qml to something obvious like #FF0000 and if that works try the value from the Plasma 5 version: #0E0F12

Woops you're right, totally sorry for posting under the plasma 5 version :') you can remove it if you'd like - also today I made another screenshot and double checked the color code, because as you suggested it was picking up the colors by changing it to the red one, so it was working nicely - so today, the color was #1c1d20 and now it blends in perfectly o.O Now that's perfectly odd if I may say - its definitely something with the color profiling then, seems its different for everyone or I don't know - or maybe yesterday I was too tired and picked the actual left and right color by being off a pixel :') But honestly the most odd part, is that the #0d0f11 (the one which is in the qml afaik), perfectly fits on my laptop which has intel gpu.. perhaps its something with nvidia proprietary coloring profiles

Thanks. I’m not quite sure what to do so I’ll leave it like this for now - couldn’t figure out how to set colorspace in qml, if it’s possible. Maybe I could try some other colorspace settings when encoding the video-file. (Whenever I get around to render it out with more samples - the denoising flicker has annoyed me for a bit. ^^ )

unfortunately it doesn't work for opensuse tumbleweed snapshot 20240116 on my pc. I don't know if the problem is with this release or with the splashscreen because when I changed the other splashscreen it worked fine

memil

Still works on 20240116 on my machine. Make sure you've got AV1 codec installed (not sure which of the packages is the right one, libaom maybe).

10 Normally I don't use Plasma splashscreens, but this one is beyond awesome, and now I need help cause I started to download openSUSE despite already being a happy Arch user, btw. Jokes aside, this work is amazing!
