I signed up overhere especially to vote up this theme. I mean, nothing is going to beat Steam Powered Linux. That is WAY into the future. This theme is just awesome. I really have to control myself to keep the caps lock down... ;)

I love this theme! But I miss a user list. It really would be great if you could also make a version like version 3 (2 is too hectic IMHO) with a user list.

Paladin-MMX

Well, I could try, but don't know where to put user list so it will fit theme. If I need to change something of existing elements, I'll have to re-render animations for it.

I really like the style of this theme, but I just realized that the license makes it non-free :( Any chance of getting it as cc by-sa or cc by?

Paladin-MMX

Just wanted to keep it non commercial, so I think I can change license to CC BY-NC-SA or similar. Will it be free enough? :)

ArneBab

I consider NC-licenses as non-free (am I allowed to use the theme on my work-computer? If it boosts my productivity, I effectively make money with it…), but getting away from ND would already be great! What is your reason for wanting to keep it NC? That forbids anyone to ship it on a physical CD with KDE… and once you get contributions, you can’t ever get away from the NC again (without asking all contributors), so your theme could never get into KDE as one of the default themes.

Paladin-MMX

I've updated this one and other packages for steampunk theme to have CC BY-SA license :)

ArneBab

That’s really cool! Thank you!

All I see is a black background and 3 image buttons at the bottom. Are you using jpg or png for the images ?

Paladin-MMX

For background images I used JPGs. PNG version of this theme is several times bigger.

sgrayban

Not working for me. You can't see anything except 3 buttons at the bottom so its pointless to use. I am not sure why developers here refuse to test their work for all valid versions of KDE. Laziness most likely.

Paladin-MMX

I've spent weeks of my own free time to get this done. I'm not sure word 'laziness' could be used here :) If I have time I will make PNG only version for older KDE.

sgrayban

Ok so it's a lack of throughness. There are other valid and active versions of KDE 4 in the wild that doesn't make any of them obsolete. You posted the addon under KDE4 not under KDE4.xx.xx so any themes here should be working for KDE4 regardless of what version the user has. This is what I am trying to get across to you and other developers here.

~ pros very original and subtle theme ~ cons i have a 2 displays setup and when i log in kde, on my secondary display I see the same login screen like on my primary one, execpt the user/pass data. Please leave the secondary displays blank or with some simple wallpaper. Now it's a fake login screen.

Paladin-MMX

Thanks for the feedback! I will try to resolve this problem when I have opportunity to make a dual display configuration or at least find some document on how it can be done in KDM theme.

ailie

3 ideas for the 2nd display: - clone the primary display or ... - leave it blank or ... - display a simple wallpaper (without user/pass fields)

Hi! i realy like this theme!! but i can't get it work... I've instaled it, both Ksplash an KDM, but it shows a black screen. I'm using KDE instaled over ubuntu...

Paladin-MMX

Don't know why it may not work. What screen resolution do you have? Do you have problems with KDM or with KSplash also?

falaschito

I have problems with both, KDM shows only 3 bottons, and i have to login by console, and Ksplash shows a black screen for about a nanosecond ( :P ) and then de desktop appears...

Paladin-MMX

Run the following command from console: ksplashx SteampunK --test Is there any error message? What is your display resolution? Do you have problems with other themes?

Archimedes

You got my two thumbs up. Thanks for sharing, dude!

rbos

Wunderful theme!

On my system, where the animation png's overlap, the animation effect is blocked. For example, where the footprint of lamps.png overlaps that of dynamo.png, the rotation of dynamo.png is suppressed (but only where they overlap - so part of the text rotates while the upper right quadrant stays fixed). Parts of some of the other gears appear "stuck", etc. Does anyone else have this problem?

Paladin-MMX

Hi! I've noticed similar problems in other overlapped animations and had to change these animations so they do not overlap, but dynamo and lamps are working fine on my system. May be it is some problem of KSplash engine. Can you provide more detailed description of your system, like OS, screen resolution?
