suggestion: be nice if the command was "kate -u %u" so that the existing kate window was used instead of opening an additional one
A SlackWare TGz package with SlackBuild Script is Ready to DownLoad!!! http://www.slacky.it/ http://www.slacky.it/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=1&func=fileinfo&filecatid=980&parent=category
how to put that *.desktop file that you provide to make it work? nice idea anyway, very nice!
To install any service menu just copy the *.desktop file to ~/.kde/share/apps/konqueror/servicemenus/ (for one user) or to /usr/share/apps/konqueror/servicemenus/ (as root, for all users)
Another easy way to install service menus is through the Add Action Service Menu (http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=11435) who adds a service menu (Install Service) to install other service menus.
I would suggest an additional feature like: "as text by root" This should ask for the root-password and start kate with the file. regards Peter
There is already a service menu for open text files as root (Edit as Root, in http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=11998). But, I apreciate your sugestion and I will integrate that in a new version of "Edit File" to allow to open all files as root. Thanks for the tip.
cool, many thanks
